During the Willie Clancy Week in Miltown Malbay, County Clare we also had a chance to visit the village of Doolin, the limestone expanse called the Burren, and the Aran Islands. Afterwards we traveled down to Dingle and the Blasket Islands (the western most part of Europe, sometimes called "The Last Parish before America").

I'm still learning how to use all the features of this blog, so the commentary for the images is a bit sparse. The images were taken by me. If you click on one of the pictures you can see it in full detail. The pretty girl is a Burren Farie. She appears near the ancient Portal Dolmen in the Burren of County Clare once every 18 years. We happened to be there on the occasion of her first visit and I took this picture. We were able to bribe her with some chocolate and she sat still for the camera. I was surprised to learn that if you feed a Burren Farie, you may come under her power, which is what happened to me, and we had to bring her home with us. She now lives with us in Blandford and we are contractually obligated by the Farie Magic Convention to do her bidding forever. As you can guess, none of this was mentioned in the literature we studied prior to our trip. Now I'm wishing I had studied a little bit more...
